Ikea kitchen for kids – Duktig

Almost Christmas holidays, my wife and I was thinking what Christmas presents should we buy for the kids? Something that they could play together, something that they don’t have yet, something different… and please no more Duplo-sets, Lighting Mc Queen or toy cars for the moment. I have landed my feet on those little hard toys a few times… not recommended.

Lately Lucas has started role-playing with her sister Lena. She loves her brother’s attention and she copy-pastes what his brother does and vice-versa. So something in that direction.

So no toy cars, no more plastic, something sustainable and what the kids can play for years. And just one day, we walked through the Ikea, passing by the kids department and we saw that wooden kitchen. Suddenly Lucas picked up a toy pizza from the floor, he walked to that kitchen, opened the door of the oven, put it in the oven and started cooking with the pots and pans. I looked to my wife and she smiled at me with both the same idea, we should buy this for the kids.

Ikea Kitchen Duktig looks very solid, wooden material and looks very cute. Questions you may ask could be: “what does it include?” “How big is it?” “Does the package fit in my car?”. So the Kitchen Duktig only includes the kitchen and excluding all the accesoires like the pots and pans, the kitchen utensils, coffee set and 3 sets of shopping ingredients. We decided to buy them all except for the coffee set because they are breakable. Why haven’t they make the set in durable child friendly material?

The kitchen measures 72cm wide, 40 cm deep and 109 cm heigh. You can also add sockets (included) to make the kitchen even higher for bigger kids. The kitchen comes in one package that fits in most cars’ boot, it measures 39cm wide, 17cm heigh, 74cm long and weighs 19 kg.

On Boxing day, we suprised the kids and you can see them sniffle around the big brown ikea box with big question marks.

Let me finish my ice cream and then I will assist you papa

It’s easy to build and took us one hour to build the kitchen. We were missing one screw for the handles but they send it to us by post the following week.

And the result is very good with a BOWLS decal !

There are sockets for this kitchen to raise it up but we don’t need them just yet. The kitchen includes a micro-wave, a sink with faucet, two cabinets with shelves, two burners and two more slots on the left and right of the micro-wave. For the electric burners you will need to buy four AA-size batteries.

If you have time and you want to pimp this kitchen up, there are a lot of impressive ideas flowing from the internet. If you don’t have time but still want a little extra you can use decals showed like below.

Overall, I think it’s a good spend item for the kids. See them enjoying cooking every day and hopefully they will become good cooks and they will cook for themselves or even better for us later!
